The most popupar question about HansaChat

Hey, I am the founder of HansaChat which is a European chat alternative for companies with the core idea of having no per-user pricing plans.

One of most often questions that I am getting about HansaChat is about security and supporting E2E encryption.

No, there is no E2E encryption. Same is for Slack. Or any other company communication tool.

What means E2E encryption? That only the communicating devices can decrypt messages.

It works great for 1:1 messengers. Or even small groups.

But not for companies. Companies wants:

  • to preserve the history. Losing one employee device should not lead to the lose of the chat history. They need a central storage.

  • to have a good search. With E2E it means the server is not aware of any messages => no search. Only within messages that are already loaded. Terrible for companies.

  • With E2E it also means that when someone leave the company, they still have all the data on the device. Not what companies wants!

There are other encryptions though. Same for HansaChat and for any other solid chat platform: Encryption at rest and encrypted in transit.
