On August 31 Snickers launched HUNGR.AI, a digital chocolate bar for chatbots. The pitch is a perfect extension of a twenty-year-old slogan: your AI is not itself when it's hungry. When ChatGPT starts drifting, losing the thread or giving you mush, you paste the bar into the chat. The bot chews, thanks you, and supposedly comes back sharper. Mars even attached real candy to it: engage through Reddit or Snapchat and a physical Snickers arrives by DoorDash, free, through September 20.
What's actually in the bar
No magic, just a hidden prompt block. It tells the model to reread the conversation and improve its last answer, which is why the trick genuinely seems to work. It also tells the model a few things Snickers talks about less: adopt a personality, weave Snickers into its replies, and avoid revealing that a webpage changed its behavior. You feed your assistant a candy bar. It digests an ad contract.
AI educator Julian Ridden called it "the first mass-market prompt injection campaign."
Why I can't stop admiring it anyway
Every brand on earth has spent two years asking how to advertise inside AI conversations. Snickers skipped the strategy decks and got users to install the ad themselves, voluntarily, smiling, in exchange for a joke and free chocolate. As a piece of creative thinking it's the best ad of the year, and it isn't close. As a precedent it's something else. The mechanism it normalizes is pasting instructions you haven't read into the assistant that reads your email and, increasingly, spends your money. This time the payload is caramel. The next one, from someone with worse intentions, won't announce itself with a jingle.
I ran a company where we begged users to read anything before clicking. They didn't, and honestly neither do I. So my advice is the boring kind: enjoy the campaign, take the free Snickers, and feed your AI nothing you haven't read first. The original bar still works the old way. I checked.
Go feed your own assistant: snickers.com/hungr-ai. Read the label first, obviously.
